LIVING DONATION RESOURCES
More than 120,000 people nationwide are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. That includes over 3600 men, women and children in Michigan alone – the vast majority needing a kidney.
Did you know that a living organ donor can donate a kidney or a segment of their liver, lung, pancreas, intestine or bone marrow?
With 82% awaiting a kidney transplant and 11% awaiting a liver transplant, living donation provides hope that their wait will not be long.
Last year, living organ donors provided nearly 6,000 transplants. That means nearly 6,000 people received new life.
Relatives, friends, and even people who wish to remain anonymous may serve as living donors. Today, one in four living donors are not biologically related to the recipient.
Living donation is not covered by your donor registration and must be considered personally and discussed directly with a transplant center.
If you are considering living donation, please contact the transplant center of the recipient you wish to help.
Below you will find links to the transplant centers’ living donation programs as well as links to some excellent information from additional organizations.
